A user can request access by presenting their smartphone, SMB Key Tag or SMB Card at the door’s reader or entering a User Code into the T30 Keypad. The smartphone must host the Gallagher SMB app with a valid mobile credential for the site.
iOS smartphones communicate with the reader using Bluetooth®. Android smartphones communicate with the reader using NFC or Bluetooth®. The tag and card communicate with the reader using NFC.
Access granted events will appear in the History log of the Site Manager’s app when access has been granted and taken through the door. The user’s name and door name are reported.
Notes:
Location permission must be enabled on Android devices, as without this permission the device’s Bluetooth® won’t scan, even if Bluetooth® itself is enabled.
Only Site Managers and privileged Site Admins can view doors and their locked/unlocked status within the Gallagher SMB app.
For an access granted event to appear in the History log, access must be granted and taken through the door. The door’s open sensor must change state.
Door configuration supports a reader on one side of the door only. The solution does not support entry and exit readers on the same door.
Controlled entry
To be granted access, the user must have privilege to the area the door leads into. If they have privilege for the area, access will be granted, and the controller will unlock the door.
If the area the door leads into is armed, the system will prompt for a second factor to disarm. The user must have privilege to disarm the area the door leads into, hence must present a valid FIDO authenticator (PIN, Fingerprint, or Face ID). The controller will then disarm the area and unlock the door.
Notes:
Access decisions are made at the controller, not the reader.
Site Members cannot arm or disarm areas, hence if the door leads into an armed area, access will be denied. A Site Manager or Site Admin must first disarm the area.
If an area is disarmed as a result of a successful access request, it is not re-armed if access isn’t taken.
Request to Exit
Exiting the area is achieved by either turning the door handle (mortise lock) or by using a push button release (magnetic lock). The door will temporarily unlock, allowing the user to pass through.
Note: The Request to Exit must transition to the closed state to unlock the door. If it transitions to the opened state, invert the Request to Exit input.
Unlock override
Unlocking the door from within the Gallagher SMB app will perform an unlock override. The door will not automatically change back to the locked state, until scheduled to do so. For example, if the door is scheduled to lock at 5pm each day, but a user unlocks the door from within the app at 6pm. The door will not lock again until 5pm the following day, unless a user locks it from within the app or the site is armed.
Note: Arming the site will automatically lock all doors.
Adding an access control door
Doors with readers can be used for access control. They allow people to access them with a valid credential.
Configuring door properties
About inputs: The Open Sensor and Lock Sensor inputs that you assign to the door should be wired as normally closed. The Remote Release and Request to Exit inputs should be normally open. If an input is not normally in its required state, it can be inverted in order to operate correctly.
On the Hardware tab, click the + ADD NEW button, then select Door.
Name the door something meaningful to the customer.
Select the appropriate Type of door.
The door 'Type' affects what actions can be performed on it in the SMB app. After selecting a 'Type', the available 'Actions' for that type are listed below the 'Type' field.
Assign an Area to the door. This is the area a person enters after being granted access at this door.
Assign a Reader to the door. This is the reader a person badges their credential at to gain access through the door.
The reader's LED will now display the locked state of the door. Red is locked, green is unlocked.
The reader's properties now include the option to choose whether NFC connectivity is enabled or not for Mobile Credentials. Refer to Configure readers for details.
Select the appropriate Lock Type for the door (‘Magnetic’, ‘Mortise’, or ‘Automatic’). It is important to select the correct Lock Type, as the physical lock types operate differently.
Magnetic: When configured as a Magnetic Lock, and a valid card is presented, the door unlocks. If the door is not physically opened, it will relock after five seconds. If the door is physically opened, the Unlock Relay remains active until the Open Sensor recloses (i.e. the door closes).
Uses: Electronic bolts or double doors that do not have to rebate to prevent the inactive door locking prior to the active door.
Mortise: When configured as a Mortise Lock, and a valid card is presented, the door unlocks. If the door is not physically opened, it will relock after five seconds. If the door is physically opened, the Unlock Relay resets immediately when the Open Sensor switches open. Therefore, when the door physically closes, the lock is in a state that immediately re-secures the door.
Uses: Most standard lock situations, and magnetic clamp locks.
Automatic: When configured as an Automatic Lock, the Unlock Relay will always be activated for five seconds.
Uses: Magnetic clamp doors with only one input.
Note: If using the 'Automatic' Lock Type, the Open Sensor and Lock Sensor inputs are optional. However, the 'Advanced' tab 'Door Forced Alarm Responce' can
only be configured if you select an Open Sensor or a Lock Sensor, and the 'Raise alarm if open longer than' can only be configured if you select an Open Sensor.
If you select the 'Automatic' Lock Type and do not assign any of the inputs, the door will be controlled by the auto door controller. The unlock relay wired to the auto door controller will be used to unlock the automatic door. The sensor above the door can be used to open the door.
Assign the appropriate input to the Open Sensor.
The selected input is automatically assigned the appropriate properties:
Its Area is set to the same as the door's.
Its Sensor type is set to 'Reed Switch'.
Its Door Input Response (Alarm Response) is set to 'No Event Recorded'.
Optionally assign an appropriate input to the Lock Sensor.
Note: You may use the same input for both the Open Sensor and Lock Sensor. If the Lock Sensor is set to 'Use Open Sensor' or is not specified, the system will determine the door's locked state based on the Open Sensor.
The selected input is automatically assigned the appropriate properties:
Its Area is set to the same as the door's.
Its Sensor type is set to 'Door Input'.
Its Door Input Response (Alarm Response) is set to 'No Event Recorded'.
Assign the appropriate output to the Unlock Relay.
This output provides power to the door and drives the locking and unlocking. On doors with a Magnetic or Mortise Lock Type, the Unlock Relay releases the power to the door so it can open. On doors with an Automatic Lock Type, the Unlock Relay tells the automated door controller when to change mode (free or secure).
The selected output's Output type is automatically set to 'Door Relay'.
Optionally assign an appropriate input to the Remote Release.
This input is used to unlock the door from a remote location (e.g. a button behind a reception desk near the door).
Note: If the Remote Release is used to unlock the door, the door unlocks momentarily but the door's area does not automatically disarm.
Assign the appropriate input to the Request to Exit, if required.
This input is used to unlock the door from inside the area (when exiting the area). This could be a push button or the turning of the inside door handle (see 'Free handle exiting' step below).
The selected input is automatically assigned the appropriate properties:
Its Area is set to the same as the door's.
Its Sensor type is set to 'Door Input'.
Its Door Input Response (Alarm Response) is set to 'No Event Recorded'.
If the 'Request to Exit' input is the inside door handle, select the Free handle exiting check box.
This can be used for Doors where the lock does not need to be unlocked for exit. When this option is enabled and a valid exit request is made, the Door's lock relay will not activate (Door's outside handle will remain locked).
Request to Exit should be wired as normally open; if the input is normally closed then the input can be inverted to provide correct operation.
Notes:
The Unlock Relay is energised for a maximum of 5 seconds.
If the lock attempt fails, the door will alarm after 20 seconds.
To prevent door bounce from causing a forced door alarm, the door is confirmed as closed after 200 milliseconds.
Configuring advanced door properties
Click the Advanced tab.
Select a Door Forced Alarm Response. The door forced alarm alerts Site Managers that the door has been opened without a valid access request (or request to exit) having been made. This alarm will be raised irrespective of the door’s area's armed/disarmed state. Options include:
'Access Silent / Secure Alarm': A local alert (e.g. siren and/or strobe) will be raised if the area is armed, in addition to reporting the alarm off site (which happens regardless of the state of the area).
'Secure Alarm': When activated, the item will generate an alarm if the area it is assigned to is armed. Commonly used for intruder items such as PIR’s or Reed Switches.
'24 Hour Alarm': When activated, the item will generate an alarm regardless of whether the area it is assigned to is armed or not. Generally used for system alarms or building alarms.
'Event Only': Used for audit purposes to record activity that someone may want to interrogate at a later date. Often used to record ‘return to normal’ events (e.g. Controller front no longer tamperd).
Note: See About door Alarm Responses below for more information.
Select a Door Tampered Alarm Response. The door tampered alarm alerts Site Managers if any of the inputs assigned to the door have been tampered. Options include:
'Access Silent / Secure Alarm': A local alert (e.g. siren and/or strobe) will be raised if the area is armed, in addition to reporting the alarm off site (which happens regardless of the state of the area).
'Event Only': Used for audit purposes to record activity that someone may want to interrogate at a later date. Often used to record ‘return to normal’ events (e.g. Controller front no longer tampered).
'No Event Recorded': When activated, neither an event nor an alarm will be generated. This can be used when nothing needs to be recorded and no one needs to be alerted.
Configure the Raise alarm if open longer than time. If a door is left open for this amount of time, a 'Door open too long' alarm is raised.
If the door is left open for 20 seconds, its reader will also beep to indicate that the door needs to be closed.
Configuring door schedule
Click the Schedule tab.
To keep the door locked until a user presents a valid credential, regardless of its schedule, select the First access unlock check box.
With this option selected, even when the door is scheduled to unlock, it will remain locked until there is a successful access request.
If this option is not selected, the door will unlock immediately at the time its schedule states it will become unlocked, even when its Area is armed.
Schedule when the door will be unlocked and locked for each day of the week.
Notes:
You can only configure Schedules if a reader has been assigned on the 'Properties' tab.
When a door is locked or unlocked according to its schedule, this cancels any overrides that were on the door.
If you have enabled the 'First access unlock' check box, the door will not unlock (when it is scheduled to unlock) until a user presents a valid credential to the reader. It then stays unlocked by default until the scheduled 'Locked' time.
On public holidays, the door is secured by two means. The site should be armed, which prevents all access, and the 'First access unlock' feature can prevent the door being unlocked until someone accesses it, even when it is scheduled to unlock.
Users with Site Manager or Site Admin privileges can remotely lock and unlock doors they have privilege to, from the Gallagher SMB app.
Once finished configuring the door, click OK to close and save your changes.
For more information about how the customer can use Schedules, see Schedules.
Adding a door without a reader
Gates, roller doors, or cupboards without a reader are not considered ‘access control’ doors, as the door is locked and unlocked remotely via the app or open-door button.

Within the customer app:
Doors without readers are displayed on the 'Doors' tab.
All actions for these doors must be performed in the SMB Customer app. SMB Key Tags, SMB Cards, and User Codes cannot be used for these doors. See Controlling a Door remotely.
All Site Managers get privilege by default.
Site Admins have the optional Additional Privilege to lock/unlock remote doors to selected areas.
'Unlock by' and 'Lock by' will appear in the History Log. These are not Access Granted events, as the system doesn't know who (if anyone) opened the door.
