# MIFARE DESFire EV2 obsolescence — September 2023

Review the DESFire EV2 end-of-sale notice and EV3 migration requirements.

**All regions.** NXP announced the obsolescence of MIFARE DESFire EV2, ceasing production of these chipsets to prioritise MIFARE DESFire **EV3**.

**NXP's last-time-buy date for DESFire EV2 chips: 31 December 2023.**

## Affected

C297472 (EV2 2K ISO card), C297474 (EV2 4K ISO card), C297478 (EV2 8K ISO card), C297484 (EV2 4K & 125KHZ ISO card), C297404 (EV2 4K keyfob).

## Alternatives, migrate to EV3

C297473 (EV3 2K card), C297475 (EV3 4K card), C297479 (EV3 8K card), C297485 (EV3 4K & 125 kHz card), C297405 (EV3 4K key fob).

MIFARE DESFire cards can be encoded using the Gallagher Card Encoding Service. A **minimum quantity of 10** applies.

## What you need to know

* **Sites running Command Centre v8.30 MR3 or later** can seamlessly migrate to EV3 credentials. If the site uses third-party readers, Gallagher **strongly recommends testing EV3 credentials with those readers**. If the reader is not expecting an EV3 credential the card read may fail, and third-party readers may need new software or configuration to read EV3.
* **Sites running Command Centre v8.30 MR2 and below do not support EV3 credentials.** They have two options: upgrade to Command Centre v8.30 MR3 or later, with software upgrades available under the [Gallagher Care Plan](https://security.gallagher.com/Gallagher-Care-Plan); or purchase sufficient advance stock of EV2 credentials until they can upgrade.
* To guarantee EV2 orders can be fulfilled, place orders **before 15 November 2023**. There is no quantity limit before this date. After this date Gallagher continues to hold limited EV2 stock. If a site can use EV3, order EV3.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.security.gallagher.com/knowledge-hub/products/product-advisories/historical-notices/obsolescence-notice-mifare-desfire-ev2.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
