# Database functions are only available when the SQL Server instance is runn

[Command Centre - Errors](/knowledge-hub/products/cc-software/troubleshoot/command-centre-errors.md) › Database functions are only available when the SQL Server instance is running on the same machine

**Error:** "Database functions are only available when the SQL server instance used by Command Centre is running on the same machine." The user cannot perform database functions when the SQL Server instance is running on a different machine.

## Resolution

Two approaches, depending on site priority.

**Scenario 1: the site wants a database backup schedule.** The site must place its SQL database back on the same machine as the Command Centre server (application server).

**Scenario 2: the site prioritises separating the SQL DB server and the application server.** The site must arrange a manual backup of the DB within their SQL Management Studio, done by their local DB admin.

> **Note:** Once the DB is separated onto a SQL Server, the site must manage their DB locally and manually.

If the issue still occurs even though the DB is on the same machine as the application server, make sure the registry points correctly to the local server machine, either by its Hostname, FQDN, or IP Address.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.security.gallagher.com/knowledge-hub/products/cc-software/troubleshoot/command-centre-errors/command-centre-errors-database-functions-same-machine.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
