# Finding a visitor

### Introduction

This topic describes how to find a visitor. You may want to find a visitor in order to view the visitor's details or edit the visitor's details, (e.g. add additional information to the visitor's details, when the visitor arrives).

### Procedure

Perform the following procedure to find a visitor:

1. Click the **Find Visitor** button located on the Home screen.

   The Visitor Search window displays.

   ![](https://328339335-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F6bM8WhlBE9BYizPWJaPN%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-98fe8a45598aa022e9b498f03b3900a3dfd4c424%2Fvm_visitorsearchscreen.png?alt=media)

   **Note:** The reception selected on the Home screen determines the configuration of the columns shown in the Visitor Search window and the personal detail fields that can be searched.
2. Search using one of the following methods:
   * Enter the visitor name into the **Name** field.

     **Note:** Name matching is not case sensitive.
   * Select a personal detail from the drop down list and enter a value in the field opposite.
   * Enter a card number in the **Card No.** field.

     **Note:** Searching by card number is only possible if it has been configured in Command Centre, in which case the **Card No.** field and **Card Number** column will appear.
3. Click **Search**. Visitor search results are displayed in ascending visitor name order. To sort rows by ascending or descending order, click the column header.
4. To view the visitor's details, click the **Name** hyper-link or double click the **visitor record**.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.security.gallagher.com/knowledge-hub/products/cc-software/operate/visitor-management-client/receptionist-functions/the-home-screen/finding-a-visitor.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
