# Logon

### Introduction

Your username and password will allow you to access Visitor Management.

Your username and password are configured in the Command Centre Configuration Client. It is the responsibility of your Command Centre administrator to provide you with a username and password. If you wish to change your password, refer to [Changing your password](/knowledge-hub/products/cc-software/operate/visitor-management-client/pre-registration-and-receptionist-functions/getting-started/logon/changing-your-password.md).

**Notes:**

* If your Visitor Management configuration has changed in the Configuration Client, you will need to log off then log on again in order for the changes to take effect.
* When Visitor Management is launched, if the server to which the workstation is trying to connect to is enabled for Active Directory single sign-on (a licensable feature), the system will try to log the operator onto the Visitor Management client. If Active Directory single sign-on is being used, ensure you have a domain account, (e.g. <Windowsuser@Gallagher.Local>).

### Procedure

Follow this procedure to log on and open Visitor Management:

1. Either:

   * Double-click the **Visitor Management** icon on your Desktop, OR
   * From the **Start** menu, click **All Programs** >**Gallagher** >**Visitor Management**.

   The Launching Application window displays.

2. Is your site licensed for Active Directory single sign-on?

   <table><thead><tr><th width="66">If...</th><th>then...</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>no</td><td><p>the following logon screen displays: <img src="https://328339335-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F6bM8WhlBE9BYizPWJaPN%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-60760707c37e2279105700d2a725b24aae67631f%2Fvm_logonscreen.png?alt=media" alt=""></p><p>Go to Step 4.</p></td></tr><tr><td>yes</td><td><p>a progress dialog displays briefly. If automatic logon is possible, the Visitor Management main window displays.<br>If not, an error message informing the user of the reason logon has failed displays, followed by the logon screen below:</p><p><img src="https://328339335-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F6bM8WhlBE9BYizPWJaPN%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-69e3767ca148a8ea49307da7a471001109f414e4%2Fvm_logon_authentication.png?alt=media" alt="" data-size="original"></p><p><strong>Note:</strong> For the system to automatically log the operator onto Visitor Management the following must apply:</p><ul><li>the Active Directory is available</li><li>the domain account used to log onto the network has not been disabled, deleted or locked out in Active Directory</li><li>the domain account is linked to an operator in Command Centre.</li></ul><p>Go to Step 3.</p></td></tr></tbody></table>
3. Select the appropriate Authentication Logon method from the **Logon Method** drop-down box.

   <table><thead><tr><th width="247">If you click...</th><th>then...</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Windows Authentication,</td><td>the system will find the operator linked to the user's domain account and log onto the workstation as that operator.</td></tr><tr><td>Command Centre Authentication,</td><td>this allows the operator to enter a Visitor Managment Logon Name and Password.<br>Go to Step 4.</td></tr></tbody></table>
4. Type your **Logon Name**.
5. Click in the **Password** field (alternatively, press the **Tab** key).
6. Type your password.

   If your password has expired the Expired Password window displays, refer to [Changing an expired password](/knowledge-hub/products/cc-software/operate/visitor-management-client/pre-registration-and-receptionist-functions/getting-started/logon/changing-an-expired-password.md).
7. The **Language** drop-down box provides a list of available languages.

   If you have previously logged in, **Last Selected** will be the first option, and this is selected by default.

   Select another language if required.
8. Click **Logon**.

   (Alternatively, press the **Enter** key). **Note:** If you are unable to log on, please contact your Command Centre administrator, or see [Troubleshooting - Visitor Management Logon errors](/knowledge-hub/products/cc-software/operate/visitor-management-client/troubleshooting-visitor-management-logon-failure.md) for further detail.

### Result

Visitor Management opens. Your username is displayed on the Visitor Management status bar on the bottom right hand side.

* For Pre-registration users the Visit screen is displayed.
* For Receptionist users the Home screen is displayed.

### Hint

{% hint style="info" %}
**Failed logons**

If an operators' successive attempts reaches the configured 'number of failed attempts before lockout', then they will be locked out for the configured lockout period (or permanently if this option is set). A message will display on the logon screen indicating that the operator is locked out.

<img src="https://328339335-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F6bM8WhlBE9BYizPWJaPN%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-d3260a0136166c8bc0602b5e1216a2810ac4004e%2Fvm_logonfailure.png?alt=media" alt="" data-size="original">

The lockout period (if any) will not be displayed. When the lockout period has completed, the logon name and password can be re-entered and authenticated successfully. If the operator needs the account unlocked, a privileged operator can do so via the **Operator Configuration** tab of the Cardholder properties.

**Note:** Lockout state does not get replicated to remote servers in a multi-server environment.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.security.gallagher.com/knowledge-hub/products/cc-software/operate/visitor-management-client/pre-registration-and-receptionist-functions/getting-started/logon.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
