# REST API - creating and importing REST API certificates

Create, export, and import a REST API server certificate in Command Centre.

This page covers the **server** certificate, which lets the client trust Command Centre. The certificate does not need to be created on the Command Centre server.

## Create

Run **PowerShell** as Administrator:

```powershell
New-SelfSignedCertificate -certstorelocation cert:\currentuser\my -dnsname GallagherRestClientCert
```

Open the certificate in MMC and copy the **Thumbprint**.

## Export

1. Open the certificate's **Details** tab, then choose **Copy to File**.
2. Select **Yes, export the private key**, and accept the defaults.
3. Enable **Password** and enter one.
4. Browse to a location and save.

## Import to Command Centre

1. Go to **Server Properties → Web Services**.
2. Untick **"Enable REST Clients with no client certificate"**.
3. Choose **Manage Certificates → Custom Certificate → Import**.
4. Select the saved certificate, enter the password, and choose **OK**.
5. Choose **Apply**.

## Alternative: custom server certificate via the Windows Certificate Store

Name the certificate exactly **"Gallagher Command Centre Server"**, place it in the *Gallagher Applications / Certificates* folder of the **Local Computer** certificate store, and grant Command Centre rights to use it. A custom server certificate is **not** required for experimental development.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.security.gallagher.com/knowledge-hub/products/cc-software/configure/interface-options/api/representational-state-transfer-rest-api/rest-api-creating-and-importing-rest-api-certificates.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
