# Sign in to a perimeter keypad

Sign in to a Remote Arming Terminal using a user code, card, PIN, or duress code.

There are four logon methods. The Welcome screen is the entry point for all four.

***

### Use a user code

1. Enter a valid **4-8 digit user code** using the predefined keys.
   * Asterisks display in place of each digit.
   * There is a **30-second timeout** between digits. Partial entry is rejected if exceeded.
   * The **Back key** deletes the last digit. The **Cancel key** clears the entire entry.
2. Press the soft key (OK / Enter equivalent).
3. The screen displays options based on privileges: Arm, Disarm, Log Out, or further options (Alarms, Alarm Zones & Inputs, Alarm Zones & HV/LF, Fence Zones, Test Inputs, System Summary).

### Use a card

1. Badge the card at the reader associated with the Remote Arming Terminal.
2. The same privilege-based options screen displays.

### Use a card and PIN

1. Badge the card at the reader.
2. Enter the PIN using the predefined keys.
3. Press the soft key.
4. **"Access Denied"** displays if an incorrect code is entered.

### Use a duress code

**Purpose:** allows a cardholder forced to enter a building to raise a "Duress logon alarm" in Command Centre **without it being visible on the keypad**.

**Via card badge + PIN:**

* Enter the PIN but **increment the last digit by one**.
* Example: PIN `1256` becomes duress code `1257`. PIN `1259` becomes duress code `1250`.

**Via user code:**

* Enter the user code but increment the last digit by one (same rule).

> ⚠️ **IMPORTANT - RAT duress is different from reader duress.** The duress method commonly used at readers (entering PIN plus 13) **will NOT work at a Remote Arming Terminal**. RAT duress is last-digit-plus-one only. Train operators on this distinction. Getting it wrong at the RAT means no alarm is raised in a duress situation.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.security.gallagher.com/knowledge-hub/products/cc-hardware/perimeter-solutions/perimeter-keypads/configure/keypads-logging-on.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
